Foreign nationals (except citizens of Nepal and Bhutan) entering India are required to carry a valid passport/travel document and a valid visa

Route of entry

1. 

Bangladeshi Nationals traveling to India by Land Route are normally required to use the same check-post for entry and exit.  However, Bangladeshi Nationals are allowed to travel by air and also have the facility to exit/enter by road via Haridaspur.

2. 

If a Bangladeshi National wants a combination of  two land check-posts, he has to make a specific request in the application.

Purpose of visit

Visas are issued for the following purposes of visit:

(a) 

Diplomatic and official Visas: Visa free regime is agreed on reciprocal basis for holders of Diplomatic Passports for a maximum of 30 days stay.  Holders of official Passports will be granted visas in accordance with International Convention and Practices.
Diplomatic and consular officials posted in their respective diplomatic/consular missions/posts will be given multiple entry visa without restriction on number of entries, after arrival, with validity period of their tenure.  The same facility will be extended to the spouse, dependent children/parents and authorised domestic aide of such visa holders.


(b)

Short-term single/ Double entry journey Visa:    This type of visa is to be used within one month of its issue for tourism, medical treatment, to meet relatives in India, etc.  Tourist visas are non-extendable and non-convertible and normally not granted within a period of one month from the last visit.  Frequent visitors are advised to apply for double entry visas for a period of up to ninety days with proper documented justification.


(c)

Long-term Multiple Visa : Visa valid for six months to one year, with multiple entry, are available for applicants such as professionals, work-permit holders, investors, businessmen, research scholars, fellows working in educational and research institutions and applicants undergoing long term medical treatment in India on fulfillment of relevant requirements.


(d)

Transit Single Entry Visa : Bangladeshi nationals, transiting through India by land or air routes to a third country, are required to have a transit visa subject to production of one way confirmed air/bus ticket and valid visa for the third country.


(e)

Transit Double Entry Visa : Bangladeshi nationals intending to visit a third country through India by air/road will be issued a double entry visa for a stay upto a maximum of seven days on each occasion subject to production of two way confirmed air/bus ticket and valid visa for the third country. 

 

 

Note: (i) Applicants are advised to carefully fill in the correct purpose of visit as, once the visa is issued for a particular purpose, change in the same will not be allowed.

Dollar ($) Endorsement

Bangladeshi citizens are required to endorse on passport at least US $150 from an authorized bank, or be in possession of an International Credit Card, or provide a copy of bank statement showing sufficient funds.  

 

Visa duration

The visa issued is to be availed within the period of validity and date of First Entry must be before that indicated on the visa.  Extension is normally not granted except on medical grounds and in circumstances beyond one’s control.
Long term multiple entry visa facility is available for professionals, work-permit holders, investors, businessmen, research scholars, fellows working in educational and research institutions.
 

Transit/Double entry visa

Nationals of one country transiting through the other country by land, river or air routes are required to have transit visa to be availed of within one month of its issue, valid for a stay up to a maximum of 15 days from the date of entry subject to the production of one way confirmed air/bus ticket.
No visa will be required for direct transit through on Airport/Seaport.
Nationals of Bangladesh intending to visit India or a third country through India by air/road will be issued with double entry visa  for a stay up to a maximum 7 (seven) days on each occasion, subject to production of one way confirmed air/bus ticket.

 

Visas for Foreign Nationals (other than Bangladeshis)

Foreign Nationals must normally procure long-term visas for India from Indian Missions in their country of stay.  Short-term visas may be granted to tourists and businessmen at the AHCI Chittagong.  All visas issued to such applicants may take three working days or more as prior approval from their country of stay has to be obtained.
